The fleet does not sit still, it follows the weather down the coast and across to Fiji and back. Where the yachts are, month by month, and when to book which water.

Charter grounds have seasons the way ski fields do, and the fleet moves with them. Reading the calendar right is the difference between the Whitsundays in the dry-season trades and the same islands in a February blow. Here is the year as the yachts actually live it.
Summer, December to February
Sydney owns the summer: the Hobart race start on Boxing Day, New Year's Eve at anchor with the bridge overhead, and event season in full swing for Sea Raes and Lumir. North Queensland is warm, green and quieter, locals' water for those who know which bays swim best.
Autumn, March to May
The staging season. Yachts work Brisbane and the Gold Coast Broadwater as the humidity breaks, and the fleet positions north for the dry. Autumn on the Broadwater is the coast's quiet bargain, flat water, warm sea, empty anchorages.
Winter, June to August
The heart of the charter year. The Whitsundays hit their stride, trade winds, whales from July, Whitehaven at twenty-six degrees, and Impulsive is on station in Fiji, where the Mamanucas and Yasawas are in their dry-season prime. The best winter weeks are sold by the previous spring; this is the water you book early or watch someone else enjoy.

Spring, September to November
The Whitsundays stay glorious into October while the humidity holds off, Fiji winds down its window, and the fleet begins the run south for the Sydney summer. Shoulder-season rates meet peak-season weather, the connoisseur's quarter.
