The Broadwater Behaves Like a Secret
Sheltered water, sand islands, and a city that parties at the shoreline while the anchorages stay quiet. The Gold Coast is the most underrated charter ground on the east coast.

The Gold Coast advertises itself so loudly as a beach city that people forget it is also a waterway. Behind the surf line, the Broadwater runs shallow and sheltered past South Stradbroke Island, an estuary system where a superyacht can anchor in flat water within sight of the skyline and within tender reach of some of the emptiest sand in Queensland.
The water
The anchorages behind South Stradbroke are the heart of it: bird-loud, calm, and close enough to Southport that dinner ashore is a ten-minute tender run. Wave Break Island shelters the seaward side; the sandbanks at low tide become private beaches with the toys out. North, the Broadwater feeds into the passages toward Moreton Bay for the days you want to stretch.
Flat water within sight of the skyline, the Broadwater is the rare charter ground where the city comes to you only when invited.
The season
The Gold Coast works year-round, which is exactly its role in the fleet's calendar, the water the yachts hold when the Whitsundays are between seasons. Autumn is the pick: warm water, light winds, thin crowds. Winter brings whale traffic offshore on the migration.
